Our Qualifications Course

Starting from scratch? Re-building the framework?

This is the course to do it with. We start from the basics and build foundations before we build upwards. Many of our students come to us before or during training in different therapies or if they have done previous introductory courses and want to strengthen their basic knowledge.
More than anything we aim to inspire you to enjoy the learning process and awaken your curiosity about the subject matter. If you have come to this course through an interest in complementary medicine and haven't studied in a while don't worry! We will do our best to make the process as engaging as possible and to give you the support you need. Of course you still need to do the work, but most of us tend to find a natural interest in how our bodies function - just beware how interesting you may find it!

Our emphasis is strongly on enabling students to piece all the information together and understand how and why the field is presented in the way it is in scientific literature, at the same time making it relevant and dynamic for ourselves as alternative health practitioners. You gain a strong grounding in the useful detail of anatomy, physiology and pathology.

How we offer it

It is run as an intensive course time-wise – 3 blocks of 3 days - and it is also intensive in the process of learning. It really is. So do not do this course if you are looking for the easy option! We offer it as an intensive opportunity on purpose. For many people, being immersed in the subject helps with the speed and depth of the links they are able to make. Then they remember the information.

There are 75 hours of tuition and around 40 hours of home study expected. This includes some personal tutorial time between the different weeks. There is 'homework' and an exam at the end. The revision time required gives you a great chance to pull everything together and really is worth the effort!

The first two blocks of 3 days will be taught in Bristol, UK. The pathology section of the course, the thrid 3 days will be taught from the Gordon Museum of Pathology at King's College London, London Bridge, a facility not open to the public. An extraordinary place, it houses a huge selection of pathological tissue specimens and can really help us understand some of the results of different disease processes.

As in all our courses we vary the ways we present different material, using lectures, games, group work and even visualisation to cover the topics in ways that suit everyone's learning style. We encourage skills in communicating and applying this knowledge, as well as discussion of issues in biomedical science relevant to complementary health.

What you will get

  • 6 days of training on the main systems of the body, the anatomy, physiology, how they relate to and communicate with each other
  • 3 days covering common pathologies which take place in an amazing pathology museum, allowing you the opportunity to view a variety of pathological specimens to assist your learning
  • Over 70 hours teaching time and around 40 hours of home study, totalling over 100 hours
  • Text book and work book included
  • A personal tutorial during each week
  • The chance to complete a variety of interesting pieces of work as well as be tested on you knowledge at appropriate times
  • The opportunity to complete the exam to gain the Certificate of Body Science qualification, recognised by a variety of complementary therapy organisations and Balens insurance company
